Moreover, they use steel inserts for the screws on the battery cover, so there is no fear of stripping the soft plastic on the housing. But I see two improvements on the sensor: they beefed up the 9-volt battery clip as the old one was flimsy and easy to tear. One thing I don't like is there is only two chimes each time the sensor is triggered (I prefer three like on the old unit).

In addition, the light on the receiver turns off and does not stay on all the time. The sensor no longer triggered my old receiver. The second unit I received from Amazon two weeks later is quite different and probably the 'new' model.

I returned the first unit from Amazon because one of the bolt holes for the battery cover on the sensor was stripped from the factory, because the hole is just plastic and the screw is self-tapping. There are three chimes each time the sensor is triggered, and the light on the receiver stays on all the time. The sensor even triggered the same receiver. The first one was identical to the security alarm I bought through Publisher's Clearing House around 1.5 years ago. Again, I use the remote unit inside a shed si the temperatures can get extreme but it is NOT subject to moisture. I am thinking of finally buying an adapter for the base unit, and still wish the remote unit also supported an AC adapter. I change the batteries about twice a year. UPDATE - This is still going strong 9 years later. I do understand that in many applications, an AC adapter for the remote unit would be impractical, but it would work in my case. As it is, there is the capability for an adapter for the base unit, though it is not included and there is no such capability for the remote unit.

The improvements that I would like to see is that an AC adapter be included for the base unit and that the remote unit be capable of adding an AC adapter. In the 17 months I've been using it, I've changed the batteries in the remote unit only twice and in the base unit just once. I have the remote positioned such that it alarms the instant the door is opened, and it is across the shed and up, which means if someone wanted to disable it, there would be plenty of "alarm" time to respond. The base comes with two volume settings and I use it on the loudest setting so that it can be heard throughout the house. The distance from the remote unit in the shed and the base unit in the house is approximately 50 feet. Because it is in a shed the remote unit is not subject to moisture.Ģ. At various times of the year the interior of the shed gets very hot (has been as hot as 102 degrees F in the summer and as cold as 8 degrees F in the winter. I need to state a couple of facts about my usage:ġ. I have owned and used one of these for about 17 months.
